January 10, 2008
Durham Region Transit (DRT) and the Durham District School Board (DDSB)
are pleased to announce that eligible DDSB secondary students can continue
to purchase restricted monthly student passes at a reduced cost. The pilot
program, which began in October 2007, will continue through June 2008.
The Durham District School Board is pleased to work with the Region
to continue to provide eligible students with significant savings,
says Whitby Trustee, John Dolstra. With a hugely successful pilot
program, the DDSB looks forward to this continued partnership with the
Region.
The program started with a three month trial offer in October, November
and December 2007 under a "use it or lose it" scenario in which
continuation of the reduced cost for the restricted student pass rate
of $43.00 per month was contingent upon healthy sales.
The passes are available for purchase at DDSB secondary schools at a cost
of $43.00 per month. This reduced cost represents a savings of $22.00
per month for eligible DDSB students. Students must live more than 3.2
km away from their school to be eligible for the pass. The restricted
student pass is valid Monday through Friday,
6:00 am to 7:00 pm and is not available in July or August.
In addition, students may choose to top up their restricted
student pass to an unrestricted pass, valid seven days a week all day,
for an additional $13.00 per month. The purchase of the top up to an unrestricted
student pass must be made at the United Way kiosk at the Oshawa Centre.
The regular price for an unrestricted monthly pass is $78.00 per month
and thanks to the partnership between the DDSB and the DRT, the pass will
be available to students at a total cost of $56.00.
Please contact your school for further information.
